What the houses offer when it's cold

The Evergreen has a private hot tub and barrel sauna outside, and a speakeasy, arcade, pool table and game room inside. The Tamarack has a hot tub, sauna, stone fire pit and game room, garage and driveway parking for cold arrivals and ski gear, and snowshoes in winter, subject to conditions.

The Evergreen sleeps up to 10 and The Tamarack sleeps up to 10. Neither home has private lake access.

Fall versus winter

Fall brings quieter roads, larch colour on the hillsides and easier group scheduling, but shorter days and some seasonal businesses keep reduced hours. Winter is ski and holiday season: Whitefish Mountain Resort is the area's main ski area and Blacktail Mountain near Lakeside is smaller and quieter. Opening dates depend on snow and are announced by each resort.

A sample winter day

Plan around daylight and road conditions:

• Morning: check MDT road conditions and the resort report before leaving.
• Day: ski or snowshoe, with a set meeting point for the group.
• Late afternoon: back before dark where possible.
• Evening: sauna and hot tub, dinner in, games.

Cold-weather logistics

Confirm that rental vehicles suit winter roads, plan arrivals in daylight, and do one large grocery run rather than several. In Glacier National Park, much of Going-to-the-Sun Road is closed by snow outside summer; check NPS conditions for what is open.

Splitting the group for ski days

Mixed groups rarely ski together all day. Agree who is skiing, who is snowshoeing and who is staying at the house, then plan one shared meal in the evening. Two vehicles let the skiers leave early without stranding everyone else.
