Best time to visit Scottsdale, month by month

Scottsdale's peak and off-peak seasons are the opposite of most places.

The short answer

How Scottsdale's weather and event calendar typically change through the year, and which months suit golf trips, pool weekends and big-group celebrations.

  • Peak season: typically January through April — mild weather and the big events.
  • Fall (October–November): warm days, cooler nights, golf and football.
  • Summer: very hot, with highs that commonly exceed 100°F; plan pool days and early mornings.
  • Event dates belong to organizers — check official sites before booking.

Winter and spring: peak season

From January through April, Scottsdale's mild days draw the largest crowds of the year. This is when the WM Phoenix Open, Barrett-Jackson and Cactus League spring training typically take place, so group homes book early around those weeks.

Nights can be cool in winter. A heated pool and hot tub matter more than visitors expect.

May and June: heating up

May typically brings the first very hot days, and June is often one of the driest, hottest months. Plan outdoor activities for early morning and keep afternoons for the pool.

July to September: summer and monsoon

Summer highs in the Phoenix area commonly exceed 100°F. The monsoon season, typically from mid-June to the end of September, can bring dust storms and sudden thunderstorms. Check the National Weather Service Phoenix office during your trip.

Summer is quieter for visitors. For groups who mostly want a private pool and indoor games, it can still work.

October and November: the second season

Fall brings warm days and cooler evenings. Golf courses and patios fill again, and college and NFL football are on the calendar. Our Scottsdale events page lists source-confirmed dates for these months.

December: holidays

December is mild compared with most of the country, which makes it popular for family holiday gatherings. Our Scottsdale holiday guide covers planning for Thanksgiving through New Year.
