Scottsdale at Thanksgiving and Christmas: a group-stay planning guide

Thanksgiving falls on Thursday, November 26, 2026, and Christmas Day falls on Friday, December 25, 2026. Both land next to a weekend, which is why groups tend to arrive a day or two early and leave on the Sunday.

Plan the meal before you plan anything else

Holiday cooking for a group is a kitchen question, not a restaurant question. Decide early whether you are cooking the main meal at the house, ordering a prepared meal for collection, or booking out — and put one person in charge of it.

If you are cooking, do the large shop on the day you arrive. Grocery hours shorten on Thanksgiving Thursday and Christmas Day, and some stores close outright, so confirm hours with the store itself rather than assuming.

If you are booking out, call the restaurant directly for a party above six. Holiday sittings are usually a fixed menu with a set arrival time, a deposit and a hard cancellation window; ask about all three in the same call. We hold no tables and have no restaurant arrangements.

Outdoor time in late November and December

This is the comfortable half of the Scottsdale year: daytime is usually pleasant for hiking, golf, courts and being outside, and evenings cool off quickly once the sun goes down. Plan the active part of the day for late morning to mid-afternoon and keep the evening close to the house.

Desert evenings in December are genuinely cold by the pool. A heated pool is never included by default at either home — if pool heat matters to your group, ask about it through the official booking channel before you book, and treat it as a separate arrangement rather than a standard amenity.

Check trailhead parking, preserve hours and any posted closures with the city on the morning you go. Holiday weekends fill the popular trailheads early.

Local events over the holidays

Scottsdale and the wider metro run seasonal programming through November and December, and the organisers publish their own calendars. The Sunkiss: an activity-heavy holiday base

The Sunkiss suits a group that wants the days to have a shape: the sport court is in its current orange-and-yellow finish, and the pool, hot tub and fire pit give the trip three separate places to land between sessions.

Sleeping is built for adults travelling together — four king rooms plus a bunk room — and the kitchen and dining space is a real one, which is what makes a cooked holiday meal workable rather than aspirational.

The Scottsdale Social: a larger group under one roof

The Scottsdale Social is the answer when the whole party wants to stay together rather than split across two houses. The gathering space, kitchen, dining area, bedrooms and backyard are all sized around that.

Outside, the basketball court is in its blue-and-red finish and the snookball table sits in its fixed, owner-approved position — a useful detail if you are planning an evening that keeps teenagers and adults in the same place.

If your group is closer to twelve people with one dinner table and one television between them, this is usually the better holiday base.

Packing and group logistics

Pack for two climates in one day: shorts and swimwear for the afternoon, a proper jacket for after dark. Add layers for anyone sitting outside by the fire pit in the evening.

Agree three things before anyone flies: who is driving what, when the shared meals are, and who is paying for what. A single shared document settles more holiday trips than any itinerary.

Flights into Phoenix Sky Harbor are at their busiest over both holidays. Build spare time around arrivals, and do not schedule anything ticketed on the day people land.
