Plan around the heat

Scottsdale's desert climate shapes a family day. Outside the cooler months, do outdoor activities early, spend the middle of the day indoors or in the pool, and go out again in the evening. Check the National Weather Service for heat advisories.

Trains and parks

McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park is a city park built around trains, with rides, a historic railroad collection and play areas. It is one of Scottsdale's best-known family stops; check the city site for ride hours and ticket details.

The Scottsdale Civic Center in Old Town has lawns and public art that suit a short stop between meals.

Indoor animal attractions

OdySea Aquarium and Butterfly Wonderland are neighbors at the OdySea in the Desert complex on Scottsdale's eastern edge. Both are indoor and air-conditioned, which makes them good midday choices. Book timed tickets on their official sites.

Easy desert time

The McDowell Sonoran Preserve has trailheads with short, gentle loops suitable for children, and the Gateway area has interpretive information. Go early, carry water for everyone and turn back well before anyone is tired.

Where to stay with kids

A private pool is the most useful family amenity in Scottsdale. The Scottsdale Social offers a removable pool safety fence — ask for it to be installed before arrival; it is not permanently in place. The Sunkiss's sport court and putting green give older kids something to do at home.

The Sunkiss and The Scottsdale Social each have five bedrooms, a private pool, a hot tub and a putting green. The Sunkiss adds a sport court set up for pickleball and basketball; The Scottsdale Social adds 15+ indoor games and lawn games. Guest limits, dates and the full stay total are confirmed on each home's own booking page.
